Jim Hossick got into children’s music in a rather unique way. After graduating from the University of Maryland in 1984, Jim spent the remainder of the 80's living and working in Austin, Texas and singing in a succession of rock bands.  While renovating a house on his landlord's property in the hills outside of Austin, he wrote a song about the daddy longlegs spiders who had taken up residence in the rustic dwelling. A fellow musician heard Jim sing "Daddy Longlegs" one day and suggested it would make a great children’s song. After several years of writing additional children’s songs on purpose, Jim decided to move back to Maryland and pursue this exciting musical direction.

In 1992, Jim began performing for children professionally. A year later he became a part-time music teacher for a K-8 school. During the next six years, Jim gained valuable experience in the classroom while expanding his opportunities to perform for children. In 1996 during Spring break, Jim recorded the 23 songs he had composed to date. By 1999 with his gig calendar filling up, Jim decided to leave teaching to focus on performing for children full-time. In that same year, he became listed on the Maryland State Arts Council Arts-in-Education artist roster. In the ten years since, Jim has performed all over the mid-Atlantic region for children of all ages and in venues of all sizes.

In 2008, Jim created a new stage production with a barn set and barnyard animal puppets.  The current "Kidsinger Jim & Friends" production is called "Zoo In My Room."  The show tells the story of a singing farmer and his family of barnyard animals who grow their family through adoption.  Recent performances include the Weinberg Center for the Arts in Frederick, MD and the Carroll Arts Center in Westminster, MD.

With his live performances and recordings, Kidsinger Jim has "Big Plans" to continue to influence the lives of children in a "POSITIVE-ly Fun" way for many years to come.
